About
The Shot Heard 'Round Maine is the first in a series of historical films produced by 14 students and adults in a program called "Coming of Age in America" designed to help students compare and contrast 1775 to 1856 and to 2024. Check out the TRAILER. Join us for a reception at 5:30; theater opens at 6:30.
Coming of Age in America is a project-based learning initiative supported by RSU#3, Thorndike, Maine and funded through an innovative instruction grant by the Maine Department of Education. Some of the key concepts built-in to Coming of Age are: a small intentional learning community, an engaging project, like making a film, strong adult-youth mentoring relationships, inter-generational mutuality, connection with community and an emphasis on hands-on, experiential learning, in our case, historic food and clothing ways.
The I Know ME program is part of the Aspirations Incubator from the Rural Futures Fund. Programs in the Aspirations Incubator work with students in rural Maine schools using Positive Youth Development strategies to raise educational and social aspirations through field trips, mentoring, and educational and social support.
